A Step Back in Time
Colonia Del Sacramento is like a step back in time. It was founded in 1680. Set along the Rio de la Plata, in the southwest part of Uruguay. On weekends especially, historical sites, cafes, beaches will all be crowded since it is a short ferry ride from Buenos Aires, Argentina. We found this out first hand. After being in town a couple of days during the week and seeing only a few tourists, we thought [...]

South America
South America, the Adventure Ends? Machu Picchu This article is a recap of our journey through South America, and although the two regions are similar they are also vastly different. Where do I begin? For starters, the cultural experience seemed a bit more gritty in Central America than South America. Granted, we did visit the more developed countries of South America, but in Central America, it seemed we had stepped back in time. Depending on [...]

Chuy and Chui, They Got a Few Things Right
Main street and official border For all of the ranting and raving in the last article about the border crossing from hell, it’s worth noting that they did get a few things right. Uruguay to Brazil, the Crossing from Hell
The Crossing from Hell Harrison, left half Brazil and right half Uruguay Before leaving Montevideo for La Paloma, we went to the Brazilian Embassy to purchase our Visas for Brazil. The ordeal was both time-consuming and expensive, as the fees were more than $800 USD for all five of us. It seems the exorbitant Visa fee is a tit-for-tat tax since the US charges the Brazilians virtually the same amount to enter our country. The [...]

Uruguay, an Unexpected Surprise
The ferry ride from Buenos Aries, Argentina to Colonia Del Sacramento, Uruguay took approximately one hour, and crossed the Rio de la Plata. The cities are on opposite sides of a broad section of the river just before it empties into the Atlantic Ocean. The river was so wide it seemed as if both cities were on the ocean; however, the muddy-colored water indicated otherwise. Most Americans know little about Uruguay, and we were among [...]

From Argentina to Uruguay
We wanted to spend more time in Argentina, but had to keep moving to stay on schedule. Our next destination was Uruguay, with a transit through Buenos Aires. There was so much more to see and do in this beautiful country, and we will return to experience more of it in the future. Our last meal in Mendoza, before heading to the bus station, was at an excellent vegetarian restaurant. Everything was extremely fresh and prepared [...]
