About Cooney World Adventures

Back in the summer of 2008, we made an unconventional decision: we sold nearly everything we owned—including our home—packed our bags, and set off to travel the world with our three teenage sons. The twins had graduated high school a year early, and our youngest transitioned to homeschooling on the road. What began as a dream turned into an unforgettable 15-month journey across 22 countries. We called it Cooney World Adventures—and it changed our family forever.

Now, it’s 2025. The boys are grown, and we’ve set off once again—just the two of us. In May 2024, we sold our home (again) in Orlando, Florida, and stepped fully into a new chapter: slow traveling the globe, with no set timeline and no final destination. Just curiosity, courage, and connection as our compass.

Mike is a passionate history lover who comes alive in ancient ruins, tucked-away museums, and back-alley bookstores. Catrell is a yoga teacher and soulful traveler who finds beauty in stillness, growth, and the gentle rhythm of slow mornings.

We don’t pretend to have it all figured out—this journey hasn’t gone exactly to plan (but then again, neither did the first one), and that’s part of the magic. What we do know is that life feels richest when we lean into the unknown—together.
